Paul Berlin

Houston, Top Texas Radio Personality for 63 Years

(See Paul's Recent Video and AirCheck Below)

Paul Berlin is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. He began his broadcasting career at the age of seventeen when he won a contest that gave him a summer DJ job on a Memphis radio station.

In 1950, when he was 19, Paul came to KNUZ in Houston, Texas. He was an immediate hit and won numerous 'most popular DJ' contests. Within a short time, he began promoting concerts and dances featuring Rock and Roll legends like Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Clyde McPhatter, The Platters, Brook Benton, Pail Anka, and many more. Nat Cole called him the "boy promoter". Those efforts helped him win a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Paul's close friend, Bill Young, was also his Houston Competitor in rating wars between Paul on KNUZ and KILT in Houston.

In his recent book: "Dead Air", Bill Young credits Paul Berlin with unique ability to attract and hold onto extremely high ratings in the face of formidable challenges from the McLendon powerhouse KILT, programmed by Young, and in spite of the KNUZ
inferior signal in high growth areas of Houston.
